Facilities

Wawa Ontario has a population 2,905 and is the heart of Northern Ontario. Residents and visitors can take advantage of the Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre, located at 3 Chris Simon Drive, which features an Ice Arena, Curling Rink, dance & fitness studio and Fitness Centre with access to change rooms, sauna and showers 24 hours a day 365 days a year.

Hockey, figure skating and curling are a big part of the excitement during the fall and winter months. Both the arena and curling rink host league play in addition to many tournaments and bonspiels which draw in visitors from other communities. Our Grady’s Canteen also operates in the fall and winter months daily.

The Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre also boasts many special function rooms with full kitchen facilities and a licensed bar.

Watch for our new Wawa Goose Nest Marketplace which will be located on the North End of Broadway Avenue.

Michipicoten Memorial Community Centre Hours of Operation

Reception: Monday to Friday between 10 am and 4pm, closed weekends and holidays.
Fitness Centre: 24 hours/day 365 days per year with a fitness membership and key fob.
Winter Hours: September 15 – May 15 open 6am to 10 pm 7 days a week, closed holidays.
Summer Hours: May 16 – September 15 open 6am to 4 pm 7 days a week, closed holidays.

Fitness Memberships

Wawa Gym has a variety of cardio machines, TRX Suspension System, Multifunction Weighted Cable Machine, TV, Internet, Change Room, Lockers and Electric Sauna. Seasonal Fitness Classes are available with fitness classes. Our Fitness classes are from beginners to advanced consisting of wide range of aerobic type classes, strength training, yoga and Pilates.

Outdoor Sports Field Facilities

2 Tennis Courts, Outdoor Rink (weather permitting)

3 Soccer Pitches, 2 Baseball Diamonds, Running Track – Open for public use June to October.

Wawa Beach & Lion’s Beach

What a luxury to have 2 beach choices within walking distance in town. Wawa Lake hosts a beach on each side of the waterfront. Both beaches are not supervised by lifeguards. Be safe and have fun!

In 2019 there will be more improvements along the Waterfront including a boardwalk between both ends of the beaches.

Special Events & Meeting Rooms

Several special event rooms are available for meetings and/or events. The Centre can accommodate small meetings and large corporate, community or family events and offers fully licensed bar with complete kitchen. Hosting an Event at other Municipal Facilities

The Municipality of Wawa offers other facilities such as, Lion’s Beach, Scenic High Falls and the Municipal Marina Picnic Shelter to use for special events, weddings and family gatherings. Most facilities are available at no cost, but do require a deposit to ensure clean-up.
