Notice of Completion of Environmental Screening Process
THE CORPORATION OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF WAWA
MUNICIPAL WASTE DISPOSAL SITE EXPANSION
NOTICE OF COMPLETION OF ENVIRONMENTAL SCREENING PROCESS
The Corporation of the Municipality of Wawa (Municipality) has completed the Environmental Screening Process under the Province’s Environmental Assessment Act (EAA) for the proposed expansion of the Wawa municipal waste disposal site.
The Environmental Screening Process (ESP) was initiated to investigate the preferred method to expand waste disposal capacity.
As the Municipality’s preferred option of expanding the current waste disposal site by more than 40,000 cubic metres but by no more than 100,000 cubic metres, the proposed undertaking was exempt from Schedule II of the EAA. Accordingly, the Municipality initiated the Environmental Screening Process (ESP) as described under Ontario Regulation 101/07 (Waste Management Projects). The ESP required that the Municipality follow the prescribed steps, as outlined by the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks in their Guide to Environmental Assessment Requirements for Waste Management Projects.
The ESP included public consultation, contact with Indigenous communities and government agencies and the identification of potential and net environmental effects resulting from a proposed expansion. Following the completion of the ESP, the proposed expansion of the Wawa waste disposal site is considered a feasible option for addressing the Municipality’s future waste management needs.
The Environmental Screening Report (ESR) documents the process followed and the outcomes. By this notice, the ESR is being placed on the public record for a 60 day review period. The ESR is available starting on September 7, 2021 for public review (expiring November 6, 2021) at www.kresinengineering.ca and at the following locations:
