NOTICE TO MEMBERS OF THE WAWA IMPROVEMENT AREA
PROPOSED DISSOLUTION OF THE WAWA BIA TO BE CONSIDERED AT
MARCH 7, 2023 at 6:30 P.M. COUNCIL MEETING

TAKE NOTICE that Wawa Municipal Council will consider passing a by-law dissolving the Wawa Business Improvement Association (WBIA) at its Regular Council Meeting on March 7, 2023. After reviewing options with the existing WBIA Board of Management, and due to a continued lack of participation by WBIA business members at meetings and little interest over the past decade from members to sit on the Board of Management, the Municipality believes it is in the best interest of Wawa Business Improvement Area members that the organization cease operations and annual levy bills not be issued in 2023. Wawa Council agreed to consider the dissolution of the BIA subject to a 30-day comment period from members who may be in opposition or support of the dissolution.

The WBIA was formed in the 1980s to carry out infrastructure improvements and promote local shopping within the designated area along Broadway Avenue and Mission Road, up to and including the Wawa Motor Inn. Each business within the BIA boundary is assessed an annual levy to help raise funds for operations and projects. Subject to Council passing a by-law to dissolve the Wawa BIA on March 7, 2023, all assets and remaining funds of the BIA will be transferred to the Municipality. Should Municipal Council approve the BIA dissolution, it will not issue invoices to business owners for levy payments in 2023.
