Wawa Volunteer Firefighters Recognized for Years of Dedicated Service
On Tuesday, April 5, 2022, Mayor Tait and Wawa Fire Chief Kevin Sabourin presented Deputy-Chief Pierre Gauthier with a 20-Year Fire Service Exemplary Medal and Certificate, sent on behalf of Ontario’s Solicitor General. Friends, family and members of the Wawa Volunteer Fire Department attended the presentation to honour and recognize Pierre’s 20 years of dedicated and continuous service to Wawa’s volunteer fire service.
Pierre began his firefighter career at the Timmins Volunteer Fire Department in 2000 then joined the Wawa Volunteer Fire Department in 2004 where he rose through the ranks to become Deputy Fire Chief in 2020. Pierre has extensive fire knowledge and experience and Council was pleased to recognize his outstanding contribution and volunteerism at the event.
The same evening, Wawa Fire Chief Kevin Sabourin was recognized for his 30 years of continuous volunteer service to the community as a member of the Wawa Fire Department. “On behalf of the Ministry of the Solicitor General, I was honoured and pleased to present a Service Bar to Chief Sabourin in recognition of his 30 years of service on the Wawa Volunteer Fire Department,” said Mayor Pat Tait. “We owe Kevin and Pierre a tremendous amount of gratitude and appreciation for all the long hours and years of volunteer service they have given to our community, keeping our families, friends and community safe.” Kevin began as a volunteer firefighter in 1991 and was appointed Fire Chief in April 2008. The recognition ceremony ended with tremendous applause from all those that attended the event. Congratulations Kevin and Pierre on achieving these remarkable milestones and awards!
