Second Senior Skills Swap Workshop is a Success
Press Release: December 12, 2024
Wawa Seniors Attend Travel Tips Skill Swap Workshop
The Municipality of Wawa received funding from the Ontario Government through the Senior Community Grant to provide the Senior Skill Swap Program. Colton Liddle, Program Coordinator, in partnership with the Wawa Goose Seniors Center, has recently hosted the second of six workshops designed to provide seniors aged 55 and over with opportunities to share or gain practical skills and knowledge, while connecting them with their peers and community.
On Thursday December 5, 2024, 15 senior community members participated in a Travel Club Workshop led by Betsabel Bello-Thibodeau, a long-time resident and financial advisor of Wawa. With an emphasis on safe travelling, the attendees were led through a presentation where Betsabel shared her extensive experience and skills that she has gained though travelling over the years. The attendees learned many tips and tricks that will aid in future solo or group travelling, helping them to feel more comfortable when planning on their own. During the presentation the group took moments to discuss various topics and share their experiences. Upon completion of the workshop, the group enjoyed baked goods, coffee and tea provided by Judy Page Catering.
Overall, the workshop was a fantastic success. Up next is a Sewing Machine Maintenance Workshop that will take place on January 9th, 2025 from 1:30pm-4:30pm at the Municipal Office downstairs boardroom. This workshop will aim to share the skills necessary to preform basic maintenance on a sewing machine.
