WAWA’S DRAFT HOUSING ACTION PLAN LOOKING FOR INPUT
The Municipality of Wawa is pleased to share that a Draft Wawa Housing Action Plan has been recently developed and Council is seeking community input into the Plan that seeks to increase the supply of local housing accommodations. Increasing the local housing supply has been identified in the recently updated Wawa Strategic Plan as a top priority and municipal staff, with the support of the Wawa Economic Development and Tourism Advisory Committee, have developed the Housing Action Plan to support new housing development.
The Wawa Housing Action Plan sets out five main goals with corresponding actions recommended for the municipality and its partners to consider when supporting future housing development.
Example recommended actions include; utilizing financial incentives, developing an Accessory Dwelling Unit Program, updating the 2008 Housing Need and Demand Study and exploring and fostering indigenous, public and private partnerships.
The Municipality of Wawa is seeking feedback and input into the Wawa Housing Action Plan from the community. “On behalf of Municipal Council, I encourage any new idea or suggestion from residents and potential partners to be shared that will help our community increase the affordable housing supply in Wawa. This is an important issue, one that cannot be solved by the Municipality alone. It needs a coordinated, strategic and community supported approach,” said Mayor Melanie Pilon.
The Draft Wawa Housing Action Plan is available on the Municipal Website at www.wawa.cc A paper copy is available by calling Jessie Labonte at 705-856-2244 ex. 232 or stopping at 40 Broadway Ave. Comments are requested by 4:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8, 2023, and should be emailed to jlabonte@wawa.cc or dropped off at 40 Broadway Avenue.
