Superior East OPP Detachment Board
In March 2019, the Ontario government passed the Community Safety and Policing Act, 2019 (CSPA) as part of the Comprehensive Ontario Policy Services Act, 2019. The CSPA came into effect on April 1, 2024 and replaced the Police Services Act, 1990.
Under the CSPA, effective April 1, 2024 the Superior East OPP Detachment Board was formed.
The Board is a civilian body that oversees the Superior East OPP Detachment and draws its authority from the CSPA and regulations. Section 68(1) of the CSPA sets out the role of the Board in OPP oversight.
Board composition is as follow:
One member appointed by each of the following communities who is a member of Council of the municipality, for a total of five members:
- Municipality of Wawa
- Township of Chapleau
- Township of Dubreuilville
- Township of Hornepayne
- Township of White River
Two Community members appointed jointly by the above communities who are neither members of the council of, nor employees of, any of the municipalities.
Two members appointed by the Minister for a total of nine members.
